Painted Wood Panel, Walnut, Vine Maple 60" x 33 3/4"
The inspiration for this piece came from a trip to the Midwest. I was amazed by the power of the storms lower down on the prairie. At a picnic shelter, on a bluff in Nebraska, I watched clouds come across the plain; huge bugs with electric legs that hit the ground and lumbered along. I saw one leg stamp a haymow; it burst into flame.
Cherry Wood, Welded Steel, Brass, Black Lacquered Base 15" x 5" x 20"
This was conceived down by the coast. I like the windy days down there, so I made this piece for them. When I lived on the Pacific coast, I used to enjoy watching the clouds come in and take form. This is a ‘cloud meditation.’
Big-leaf Maple, Brass and Copper Rods, Ink
31″
What I like about this piece is its totemic quality. I see this as a pure design piece. The small pieces of copper and brass rod were polished and inserted to add a comb texture.
